As soon as we do, it goes off to our brilliant award-winning composer, Ron Wasserman, for scoring. Don't Let the Light In (TEASER CLIP #1) from Jaysen Buterin on Vimeo.

DON'T LET THE LIGHT IN
For Sarah, it was just a job that started off like any other babysitting gig. But Sarah wasn't the normal babysitter, and Jack wasn't quite the normal boy that he appeared to be. He has a secret, a secret that he keeps trying to share, if he could only find someone to listen to him about the monsters in his room. As the night goes on and things start to turn from cute and harmless to creepy and haunting, Sarah can’t help but wonder... what if he's telling the truth? What if there really are monsters in his room? Because sometimes there really are things out there that go bump in the night. Sometimes there really is something under your bed. And sometimes, just sometimes, there really are monsters hiding in your room. But even monsters are afraid of something.

What's New, What's Now & What's Next... and update from Mad Ones Films - 05.19.15

With one foot in the grave and one foot on the gas pedal, its the summer of cinematic salvation!

Patrick G. Keenan, star of Between Hell and a Hard Place, winner of the BEST ACTOR AWARD at the 2015 Killuride Film Festival!!! Yes, yes, we know... we are bad bad little monkeys... horribly naughty terrifying space monkeys who appear to succumb to the whims of our peanut-sized brains and its seconds-long attention span so that every time that we see something shiny, we completely forget about updating this web site like we huffed and puffed and swore up and down six ways from Sunday that we would with a fervor and a frequency that would make you proud. However, rather than metaphorically flogging and spanking us for the salacious scripting simians that we are, rest assured movie maniacs and film fanatics, that we have been six kinds of batshite busy in pre-production, post-production and... well... production-production (that's a thing, right??)

FIRST AND BLOODY FOREMOST, we are tickled 66.6 shades of grey to tell you that "BETWEEN HELL AND A HARD PLACE" has one another film festival award! This time our very own Patrick G. Keenan, one of the killer leads in our little black and white thriller, has won the award for BEST ACTOR at the 2015 Killuride Film Festival, held at X-Con in Myrtle Beach, SC!! This makes the fifth award for the film, and the first (of many) for our brilliant lead actors, but that's not all kids. Because in case you've been driving around out in the middle of nowhere looking for that perfect spot to bury a body and STILL have not seen "BETWEEN HELL AND A HARD PLACE," we'll be speeding onto the little big screen not once but twice but in the next few weeks!!! That's right movie maniacs and film fanatics, you've got TWO chances to dance with everyone's favourite neighbourhood hitmen at the following film festivals as things heat up for the summer: the ConCarolinas Short Film Festival (May 29-31, Charlotte NC); and the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival (June 12-14, Wilmington NC).

Look for more screenings to confirm here in the next few weeks and make sure to put ALL of these dates on your calendar... otherwise we shall have to send Jack and Jack after you. Come to think of it, you should probably buy a limited-edition poster while you're at it... you really don't want to piss those guys off... and if you're already there, might as well pick up a copy of THE HPJ TRILOGY on DVD... don't want to take a chance and risk the anger of the almighty either.

After a dramatic debacle of unforeseen film fuckery derailed production on "DON'T LET THE LIGHT IN," I am excited AND delighted to announce that principal photography has wrapped on our 15TH production as Mad Ones Films!!! And while we're still putting on our floaties before we dive into the deep end of post-production, we simply had to share some of the production stills from this terrifying new short film thriller, COMING SOON!!!

So remember, DON’T let the light in, because if you do... then the darkness can get out.

This kickass collaboration marks the first time that Mad Ones Films will make a movie based off of previously existing source material before and Jaysen is hard at work on translating one of the creepiest stories he's ever read into a visual and visceral medium. And hopefully, with the grace of the filmmaking gods, we shall commence on our very first foray into feature film making... that's right kids, it's finally bloody time to KILL GIGGLES!!! Two killer reviews for our latest thriller muse, dig it! - 07.29.14

What do the critics say about Between Hell And A Hard Place? Find out below...

Our good friend, Blair Hoyle over at Cinema Slasher sent us this review after the world premiere at MonsterCon a fortnight ago, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Then we read Michael Knox's review below it... Jaysen is still glowing (happily) hot pink with the Twilight Zone mentions. Anyway, check out what two brilliant blokes had to say about one brilliant film.

"Homages to "The Twilight Zone: The Movie" are immediately apparent, as a decent amount of the film features Jack and Jack driving around at night, just bullshitting, ala Dan Akyroyd and Albert Brooks. The film continues to respect its classic roots, never drifting too far away from traditional horror. From the story structure to the cinematography, and even the film’s twist ending, "Between Hell and a Hard Place" has an interesting, old-school vibe to it." CLICK HERE TO READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW!!!

BETWEEN HELL AND A HARD PLACE Review by Michael Knox

Michael Knox, Monster Con Film Festival Host/Moderator Shot in black and white, the only thing "Between Hell and a Hard Place" is missing is an appearance by Rod Serling himself just before this short film starts rolling. Clocking in at less than a half hour, the short film has all the classic elements of a "Twilight Zone" episode, acting as a perfect homage to the show without being a rip off of one of the episodes.

The project was shot for "no budget" but still ends up having great production values, using classic cars to evoke the time period of "Twilight Zone." Plus, they use some great production tricks to create one scene that will make you genuinely believe they destroyed a classic car just for the sake of filming their story. Don't worry, they didn’t destroy it, but using tricks that Alfred Hitchcock would be inclined to use, you will wonder for a moment.

The story is a simple one, with two hit men working together, with one of the men wanting to get out of the game, and this being his last assignment. But as the two work together on their last assignment together, the world begins to grow weirder and weirder and at dives into a twisted ghost story.

Much like how "From Dusk Till Dawn" started off as a heist film/crime thriller and could have easily stayed in that genre before going into the supernatural realm, "Between Hell and a Hard Place" uses the same style, starting off with two criminals discussing their work.

With fun dialogue delivered by the two leads, the movie could have very easily just focused on the banter/philosophies of the two hit men, in the style of Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega from Quentin Tarintino's "Pulp Fiction." But adding the supernatural elements and the ghostly sightings, just amps it up a bit. Fast paced, with a sharp wit, "Between Hell and a Hard Place" is a tight production that Rod Serling would have been proud to have among his classic "Twilight Zone" tales.

- Michael Knox, Monster Con Film Festival Host/Moderator

Mad Ones Films... Stuck Between Hell And A Hard Place - 03.24.14

Life after Hot Pink Jesus takes a terrifying turn for the bloody best!!!

Between Hell and a Hard Place - COMING SOON FROM MAD ONES FILMS BETWEEN HELL & A HARD PLACE is the newest short film by writer/director Jaysen P. Buterin and the inmates running the cinematic asylum at Mad Ones Films will speed into production this May.

BETWEEN HELL & A HARD PLACE, tells the story of two contract killers - one with a crisis of conscience and the other with no conscience at all - coming back from burying their last "assignment" out in the usual middle of nowhere spot. But when they start to see things hiding in the darkness, things lurking in the shadows, things that cannot possibly be there... can they get out in time before they're both stuck between hell and a hard place?

Killing is easy...
staying dead is the hard part.

BETWEEN HELL & A HARD PLACE will also be one of the short film segments of the upcoming horror anthology, BENEATH THE OLD DARK HOUSE. A frightfully delightful homage to the 80s horror anthologies we know and love (Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside, Cat's Eye), BENEATH THE OLD DARK HOUSE will also feature two brand new works from writers/directors Jesse Knight (THE ORBS, F-3, PARTNERS) and Matt Cloude (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: GENESIS, THE CREIGHTONVILLE TERROR), and will eventually be released as a feature-length film.

The Gospel is coming to DVD - CLICK TO EMBIGGEN The Gospel is coming to DVD - CLICK TO EMBIGGENWe've also been working away these past few months on preparing the world for the cinematic second coming of the HPJ Trilogy... this time on DVD!!! Oh sure, we at Mad Ones Films COULD show you more than just a simple sinful sneak peek at the amazing almighty asskicking artwork for The Gospel According to Booze, Bullets & Hot Pink Jesus DVD cover, designed by internationally-acclaimed artist and worldwide body painting champion Scott Fray, but we fear that doing so would only run the risk of melting those lovely little faces of yours like you were a greedy goose-stepping nazi ill-advisedly pointing your peepers into the Arc of the Covenant… and since we just can't do that to you, mainly because without faces how can you watch the DVD - let alone buy it?!? So for now, true believers, behold just a titillating tidbit, and in just a few days… ALL WILL BE REVEALED!!! Your cinematic salvation is at hand heathens!

Finally, the last little bit of silver screen surprise we have for you... Mad Ones Films is pleased to announce that the next film on its production slate is the terrifying travel tale, the ghost story with the most story from the mind of writer/director Jaysen Buterin, "Between Hell and a Hard Place." Keep those fingers crossed for a 2014 release and world premiere at MonsterCon!!!

To be selected to screen our Shakespearean spaghetti western story was an honour enough, but to receive such an accolade from Native filmmakers and film lovers alike, is a true testament to the collective cinematic genius of the inmates running the movie-making asylum at Mad Ones Films. And a most special thanks must go out to the festival organiser, Will Moreau Goins Phd, for not only making some of our dreams come true, but for being one of the coolest cats that me and Hot Pink Jesus have ever met on our travels. I'm not going to say today is a good day to be Indian... because EVERY day is a good day to be Indian, and THAT is my Gospel. Stay tuned for laurels kids... Aho.

While more conventions and festivals are already lining up to screen the Trilogy, we'll also be heavily promoting Act II: A Saint of Sin in a Den of Thieves as the brilliant slice of Shakespearean spaghetti western sindependent film that it is...

That's right, true believers, it's Hot Pink Jesus!!! Gracing the cover, and several pages inside with AMAZING artwork by Bonnie Austin Stanley, our Creative Director (Jaysen P. Buterin) spent several days with Yes Weekly! editor (Brian Clarey) for an in-depth introspective retrospective respectable-like profile about the madness to his method, his beloved Mad Ones, his darling Dark Lord and all things hot pink and heretical.
